Port Macquarie has friendly pelicans and an abundance of delicious seafood to try. We will be arriving in Port Macquarie early so you will have time to do a spot of whale watching, shopping or boogie boarding. Historically, Port Macquarie is the most significant town between Newcastle and the Queensland border. It has everything: interesting historical buildings, lovely beaches with good surfing and excellent fishing opportunities, a fine museum, beautiful walking tracks around the headlands and beaches, lots of amusements and even a koala hospital! About Port Macquarie
Port Macquarie was settled in 1821, making it one of the oldest penal settlements outside of Sydney. Two fine examples of the original convict constructed buildings still stand today, St. Thomas’ Church and the historical museum. Other early buildings to visit are the former Court House, Douglas Vale Homestead and Vineyard, Lake Innes Ruins and Roto House.

There are 8 beaches in and around Port Macquarie, most of them lifeguard patrolled from October through to April. Spectacular river and coastal walking tracks provide easy access for exploring.
For those wishing to get closer to nature, visit the patients of the Koala Hospital - the largest hospital in NSW caring for sick and injured Koalas. Feeding time is around 3pm. Or stroll along the elevated boardwalk at Sea Acres Rainforest Centre where strangler figs are dripping with dew and catbirds call high in the canopies.
